This year’s competition films
When Copenhagen International Film Festival fades up for this year’s film event on 20 September, the audience can experience 147 fantastic films. 11 of them will get special attention, namely the films in competition, which compete for the six categories of the festival’s Golden Swan award.

After an apocalyptic earthquake in Istanbul, Bilge leaves the city with her husband and children and moves to a rented summer house in the countryside. But here, nothing is like they expected it to be. Large dogs roam around at night, all roads are dead-ends, and the view from the house is nothing like the description they were given, but looking out over an old churchyard. A sense of eeriness starts to engulf the fleeing family, and they desperately try to keep together as the plot twists and turns - which it does in such a way that nobody can be left with the slightest doubt that Turkish film in the year 2007 is on a par with other European works, both in terms of narrative technique and visual ambition. The brothers Durul and Yagmur Taylan were behind the cult blockbuster School (Okul) in 2004, and this time they have made a thought-provoking and solid horror story, which has struck a cord with Turkish cinemagoers, among other things because of its realistic depiction of the earthquake.
