The boards of Natsværmerfonden and Fonden Copenhagen International Film Festival are negotiating a pooling of their festival activities with the aim of forming a new feature film festival, which shall sustain the best elements of each festival within a new, joint project. We are convinced that the new festival will be an exciting event for the general audience and helpful to the film industry. The festival shall further underline Copenhagen’s status as a dynamic cultural capital. Apart from creating this new international event, the new organisation will also produce the children and youth film festival Buster as well as the documentary film festival CPH:DOX. The two boards have reached an agreement on this, but the economic basis for the new feature film festival is yet to be clarified. Sufficient financing is a fundamental premise for our joint project. The City of Copenhagen has tendered a proposal, and both the Danish Film Institute and the Danish Cultural Ministry have reacted positively. In addition, it is decisive for future financing that we can obtain funding from Fonden til markedsføring i Danmark. Unfortunately, there is still a delay in obtaining a concrete pledge from the organisation, but considering our wish to plan the year 2008, we hope that we will be given a positive decision before the end of this year. Furthermore, we will resolutely work on forming closer collaborations with business partners and sponsors. We need all the backing we can get from audiences, sponsors, the film industry and the authorities. The way things stand now, NatFilm Festival will take place as planned in March/April 2008.
