A preview screening of six brand-new films

Copenhagen International Film Festival proudly welcomes you to the premieres of a string of exciting films from New Danish Screen. The audience can meet the filmmakers and their crews over a glass of wine on Thursday, 27 September and Friday, 28 September in Empire Bio.

New Danish Screen is a special funding scheme of the Danish Film Institute and last year made a name for itself both at home and at film festivals around the globe with a number of successful feature films (among others A Soap and Princess). The scheme's idea is to develop new, dynamic and diverse talents. Apart from feature films, the scheme is also behind the production of a number of short films, which to an even greater degree challenge the standard image of Danish film.

MOTHER DEAREST (Poul E. Madsen)
This film is a heart-rending story about Rune, who lives alone with his mother after his father's death. Rune tries to fill the empty space at home and looks after all the practical matters in order to keep things going. The local authorities regard the family as dysfunctional and consider a forced removal of Rune from his home. He, on the other hand, is desperately trying to convince himself and his environment that everything is in perfect order.

BOY MEETS GIRL (Søren Frellesen)
A screenwriter (David Dencik) is given the chance to meet a female producer (Iben Hjejle). They inspire each other both artistically and romantically. Together, they dream about the individual scenes, and their game develops into a cavalcade of different film genres, where they themselves play the lead roles. We are taken on a tour de force through everything from French New Wave to German discount porn and Ingmar Bergman to Danish specialities à la Korch and Dogme.

YOUNG MAN FALLING (Martin De Thurah)
17-year-old Hue is living on the fringe of a true perception of reality. Cars pursue him, while a world full of rules and systems asks for his attention. How can he concentrate on his preparations for his French exam when the stuffed animals in his room begin to interfere? And what about Irene, who disturbs him with her invitations? This is an experimental film with a captivating visual style.

EXPOSURE (Oliver Zahle)
The visually remarkable and sophisticated story about the photographer Nikolaj is set in a no man's land between fantasy and reality. He tries to sustain his relationship to his girlfriend Rikke, but flirts with Laura, a charismatic and attractive girl who once was his puppy love. Nikolaj's brother Tobias, who is mentally ill, interferes in the events, and the old rivalry of the two brothers is rekindled. Exposure stars Ulrich Thomsen, Ellen Hillingsø, Trine Dyrholm and Troels Lyby.

GETTING OUT (Lars Wass, Thomas Glud)
Kirsten lives together with her 18-year-old son Dennis. One day, Dennis is lucky enough to have his life's biggest dream come true: he gets the chance to sing in a talent show on TV. During the show, his mother sits at home in her provincial village's quagmire of morals and duties, and she is watching the show when Dennis suddenly reveals a secret. This film shows that one should stand by one's ideals and strike while the iron is hot. In Getting Out, one also has the pleasure of watching Helle Dolleris, Kirsten Lehfeldt and Lotte Andersen.

AT NIGHT (Christian E. Christiansen)
The film is set in the period between Christmas and New Year and is about three girls between 18 and 20 (Julie Ølgaard, Laura Christensen and Neel Rønholt), who are hospitalised with cancer. All three of them have serious problems, not just in terms of health, but also in terms of their relationships with their nearest and dearest. The girls find a haven in each other's company, where they are free from the fear of death and loneliness, and a substantial part of the film describes their sense of humour, unrestrained candidness and uncompromising zest for life.

Both on Thursday and on Friday, there will be a celebration for the crews of the three films, and after the premieres, the audience can meet the people involved over a glass of wine.

Please note that the films are in Danish and are screened without subtitles
