This year’s competition films
When Copenhagen International Film Festival fades up for this year’s film event on 20 September, the audience can experience 147 fantastic films. 11 of them will get special attention, namely the films in competition, which compete for the six categories of the festival’s Golden Swan award.

Alain Berliner, who won a Golden Globe for Ma vie en rose, once again delivers a very charming story. For the first time in his life, a young father gets to see the legendary step-dance film, Singin’ in the Rain, and suddenly experiences a strong desire to step dance. He secretly starts taking lessons and ends up sacrificing everything for his newfound passion, even his wife and children. He eventually discovers that both his father and his grandfather, whom he never met, had done exactly the same thing. It slowly dawns on him that history is likely to repeat itself through each generation. The film thus takes us on a strange journey both forwards and backwards in time, with the fascination for step dancing as the golden thread of the narrative. We enter into a unique world replete with beautiful and imaginatively choreographed scenes, which take over where Singin’ in the Rain stopped.
