This year’s competition films
When Copenhagen International Film Festival fades up for this year’s film event on 20 September, the audience can experience 147 fantastic films. 11 of them will get special attention, namely the films in competition, which compete for the six categories of the festival’s Golden Swan award.

Harmony Korine is an American, but he is also a great friend of European - and especially Danish -cinema. Julien Donkey-Boy from 1999 even has the certificate “Dogma film number six”. Korine is back with another original film about eccentric characters that don’t exactly fit into the ordinary framework of society. This time, we meet Michael Jackson and Marilyn Monroe. Not the Real McKoys, but Diego Luna, who makes a living impersonating Jackson, and Samantha Morton, who doubles as Marilyn. Not only do they make their bed and butter by looking like their idols, they also imitate them every day, all the year round. What’s more, Marilyn is married to Charlie Chaplin. The film is a fascinating journey from Paris to Scotland via Dreamland, and the trip is beautifully photographed by the Danish cinematographer Marcel Zyskind, who also works regularly as cinematographer for Michael Winterbottom.
