This year’s competition films
When Copenhagen International Film Festival fades up for this year’s film event on 20 September, the audience can experience 147 fantastic films. 11 of them will get special attention, namely the films in competition, which compete for the six categories of the festival’s Golden Swan award.

Eduart is the true story about the fate of an illegal Albanian refugee - an accont of the chaos and hopelessness that characterises Europe’s arguably most troubled region. Eduart illegally emigrates to Greece with his two best friends, dreaming of a career in rock music on the other side of the snow-clad border. But life in Athens is less rosy, and he ends up living as a thief and a male prostitute, until one day he is driven to kill a man in cold blood. He escapes back to Albania, where he nonetheless ends up in a brutal prison. There, he meets a German doctor, Christof (André Hennicke from Der Untergang and In Memory of Myself), who is also serving a life sentence. The encounter has decisive consequences for Eduart, and a new journey begins when the prison is stormed during Albania’s collapse and a stream of prisoners fills the country roads, which are already flooded with refugees.
