This year’s competition films
When Copenhagen International Film Festival fades up for this year’s film event on 20 September, the audience can experience 147 fantastic films. 11 of them will get special attention, namely the films in competition, which compete for the six categories of the festival’s Golden Swan award.

The title says it all. This is a purebred film noir, set in a striking black-and-white and sometimes blood red universe. The main character wakes up below the Hollywood sign. With a dead policeman lying beside him, he has no idea what he is doing there, or who he is. Is he the private eye Sam Ruben, whose mobile phone he is carrying? Or is he the mysterious David Hudson, who seems to be the devil incarnate. The deeper he probes into the matter, the more entangled things get, and there is no small amount of gunfights and encounters with beautiful women, before he gains all the puzzle bits to recreate his lost memory. The two filmmakers have worked on the film for six years, using inspiration from both Chandler and Frank Miller (Sin City). The result is a visually impressive animation with a gripping plot, which is more explicit than anything we are used to.
