This year’s competition films
When Copenhagen International Film Festival fades up for this year’s film event on 20 September, the audience can experience 147 fantastic films. 11 of them will get special attention, namely the films in competition, which compete for the six categories of the festival’s Golden Swan award.

Something is badly wrong in Iceland. What first looks like an investigation into a straightforward, yet macabre murder ends up revealing a plethora of dirty lies, which have been upheld for 30 years by several generations. While a maverick inspector with a liking for sheep’s heads digs up a family’s dark secrets, a desperate father is looking for an explanation for his daughter’s inexplicable and lethal brain condition. En route, the two strains of the story are woven together to form a dark thriller, which moves at a breakneck pace. The film is based on a best seller by Arnaldur Indriasson and has set a new audience record on the island of geysers. It has also secured Baltasar Kormákur’s status of being the hottest director the island has to offer, and has won several awards both at home and abroad. Kormakur, who was a member of the jury at Copenhagen International Film Festival in 2005, has teamed up with the island’s best actors as well as with Mugison, who has composed the film’s atmospheric soundtrack.
Wednesday the 26th the director Baltasar Kormákur and the actor Atli Rafn Sigurðsson will attend the screening. Afterwards we invite you to a party with drinks and DJs from 12 Tónar (an Icelandic record company and shop).
