This year’s competition films
When Copenhagen International Film Festival fades up for this year’s film event on 20 September, the audience can experience 147 fantastic films. 11 of them will get special attention, namely the films in competition, which compete for the six categories of the festival’s Golden Swan award.

Russia is rarely associated with “cape and sword” films, but here we are nonetheless presented with a sweepingly stylish tale about two unlucky French duellists in 1709. They are sent to the front of the Great Northern War by Louis XIV. With them, they have a sealed document for the two adversaries, King Karl XII of Sweden and Tsar Peter of Russia. What they don’t know is that the documents contain their own death sentence. But many intrigues and confrontations are to take their course before they even get that far. There is romance, action, entanglements and spectacular battle scenes awaiting in this historical adventure, which bubbles with energy. The director has cast a sidelong glance at Dick Turpin, Ridley Scott’s The Duelists and the classic Man in the Iron Mask, and as a result, there is a good portion of Dumas in the film.
