This year’s competition films
When Copenhagen International Film Festival fades up for this year’s film event on 20 September, the audience can experience 147 fantastic films. 11 of them will get special attention, namely the films in competition, which compete for the six categories of the festival’s Golden Swan award.

Géla Babluani came to a brilliant start as a director with his hair-raising 13 (Tzameti). He has now returned to his family’s home country, Georgia, and has teamed up with his experienced father Temur for his second feature. It is full of black humour and surprising twists, and follows three French tourists (Sylvie Testud, Stanislas Merhar and Olga Legrand), who make the great mistake of thinking that they can make a difference. They go on a two-day bus trip to visit an old ruin that one of them has inherited. En route, they meet an old man and his grandchild (Giorgi Babluani from 13). The old man is willing to sacrifice himself in order to put a halt to a blood feud that is raging with another mountain clan. But the Frenchwomen do not want to accept the mountain people’s medieval rules, and think that they can change the outcome of the feud. This has catastrophic consequences. If only the tourists had seen Deliverance! The Babluani family obviously has.
