This year’s competition films
When Copenhagen International Film Festival fades up for this year’s film event on 20 September, the audience can experience 147 fantastic films. 11 of them will get special attention, namely the films in competition, which compete for the six categories of the festival’s Golden Swan award.

Amazing Grace is best known as a hymn that was sung by African-American slaves in the Southern states. But we have to go all the way back to the late 18th century England to find its origin and the remarkable story connected to it. William Wilberforce dedicates his life to abolishing slavery, and in spite of his young age, his political career is advancing quickly. Within the course of a few years, he manages to turn the leading forces of the British parliament against slavery. His unshakeable faith and burning commitment not only convinces the members of parliament but also fascinates the young Barbara, whom he marries. She stands by him through thick and thin in the battle he’s trying to win while keeping his soul in one piece. The moving story touches on an almost forgotten chapter in European history, and leaves a strong impression that it is worthwhile taking up the struggle against evil.
