This year’s competition films
When Copenhagen International Film Festival fades up for this year’s film event on 20 September, the audience can experience 147 fantastic films. 11 of them will get special attention, namely the films in competition, which compete for the six categories of the festival’s Golden Swan award.

The zombie movie was revived and brought up to speed by Danny Boyle’s raw and hair-raising action thriller 28 Days Later. This time, the Spanish filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (Intacto) has taken over the helm and delivers an equally visionary and uncompromising sequel. 28 weeks after a mysterious virus has turned London’s inhabitants into mouth-frothing, meat-eating zombies, all the infected people have died. With the help of the American army, an attempt is made to revive the proud city, and the surviving population is let back in. But can one really be sure that the plague has disappeared? The intensity and the stripped-down, naturalistic look of the first film has been maintained in the film’s gripping images, while the blood-sucking horror has been turned up a notch. Robert Carlyle heads the small group of survivors. But nobody knows the answer to the question: who will be the next victim?
