Alexander Beyer (Good Bye, Lenin!) plays Marcus, who returns to his home, a small country village in former East Germany, after 22 years. Here, everyone thinks that he died in a drowning accident as a child. Consequently, nobody recognises him, apart from the priest. The truth is that, at the age of 10, he ran away from the orphanage, where his mother is still working as a strict superintendent. She, however, does not believe him when he tells her that he’s her son, and rejects him. Marcus suspects that both his mother and the other inhabitants of the village - even the beautiful Alena - are covering up a secret. Something is brewing under the surface, and he tries to find out what it is, as he tries to bring the repressed past back into the open. In the midst of all the searching, concealment and repression, Thomas Wendrich tells a compelling story that leaves nobody untouched.
Sunday the 23rd the director Thomas Wendrich and the actor Alexander Beyer will introduce the film and answer questions from the audience after the screening.
