This year’s competition films
When Copenhagen International Film Festival fades up for this year’s film event on 20 September, the audience can experience 147 fantastic films. 11 of them will get special attention, namely the films in competition, which compete for the six categories of the festival’s Golden Swan award.

The Distance La distancia

The title of this Spanish thriller refers to the distance that the young boxer Daniel finds hard to keep, both inside and outside the ring. He is on the verge of a breakthrough, but gets involved in an unsuccessful robbery and ends up in prison for committing murder. Here, a corrupt police officer induces him to kill a fellow convict in return for being set free. But instead of keeping his distance, he is now drawn to the victim’s wife. Despite his strong moral scruples, he can’t keep his fingers off the slender widow. Before long, he is caught between the police on the one hand and the people who have set him up to the murder on the other. Daniel is given the chance to have one last fight - if he manages to live long enough. The film uses hard-boiled realism and solid acting in the lead roles to create a classic film noir, with a few big surprises and exciting boxing fights thrown in.
