This year’s competition films
When Copenhagen International Film Festival fades up for this year’s film event on 20 September, the audience can experience 147 fantastic films. 11 of them will get special attention, namely the films in competition, which compete for the six categories of the festival’s Golden Swan award.

One reason Der Untergang (Downfall) was such a huge success is that young Germans wanted to reconcile themselves with the country’s cruel past. But it’s a huge leap from there to making fun of Adolf Hitler and the macabre circus that surrounded him: Mein Führer was dipped in tar and rolled in feathers by both the press and the public, and Helge Schneider, who plays the main part, distanced himself from the finished product. It might therefore be tempting to think that the film is unimportant. But it is not. It is provocative and funny. The basic premise is that a Jew (played by Ulrich Mühe, who last year won the Golden Swan for Best Actor for his performance in The Lives of Others) helps Hitler make his last fiery speech, and it ends up being a highly original affair. The film makes wonderfully satirical guesses at how things could go that far with an insane madman at the top. The film was directed by Dani Levy, who has previously had two of his other films shown at Copenhagen International Film Festival.
Friday the 21st the director Dani Levy will introduce the film and answer questions from the audience after the screening.
