The Trap Klopka
|
|
A family father faces a tough moral dilemma in this claustrophobic thriller by the Serbian director Srdjan Golubović. He lives a normal life with his wife and their 10-year-old son. When the son is diagnosed with a life-threatening disease, the doctors’ only suggestion is to send him abroad for an expensive operation. It is impossible for the parents to raise the necessary funds, and in the end, the mother drops all inhibitions and writes an advert in the newspaper asking for help. The only response comes from the mysterious Kosta (played by the veteran Miki Manojlović, who is known from Emir Kusturica’s films and can also be seen in the competition film Irina Palm). Kosta offers the father a solution, but the question is how far the latter is willing to go to save his son. The Trap shows in a worrying way, how everyday life can be turned on its head in very few moments, and how criminality can suddenly be seen as an acceptable solution if one can convince oneself that the means justify the ends. Faustian pacts have a tendency to backfire, and here we’re shown a psychologically strong drama about the consequences of choices made by a man under pressure. Golubović and his cinematographer Aleksander Isić paint a thought-provoking portrait of Belgrade after Milošević, where widely differing worlds exist side by side in a city with many contrasts - and with the Danish actor Dejan Čukić as a brief, but important part of the story.
Srdan Golubović
Born 1972 in Belgrade. He started to make short films while still studying theatre. Together with other young filmmakers, he founded the production company Bas Celik, where he has made a number of commercials and music videos. He made his first feature in 2001, the popular thriller Absolute Hundred.
Saturday the 22nd the director Srdan Golubović will introduce the film and answer questions from the audience after the screening.
