This year’s competition films
When Copenhagen International Film Festival fades up for this year’s film event on 20 September, the audience can experience 147 fantastic films. 11 of them will get special attention, namely the films in competition, which compete for the six categories of the festival’s Golden Swan award.

Shakespeare in Love was a fictional account of the life and loves of the English bard. The vivacious film Molière tries to imagine what might have happened during a few months in 1644, when a gap in the history books show that the French actor and dramatist disappeared from view. But these are thankfully not the only similarities between the two films. The 22-year-old Molière ends up in prison because of unpaid debts, but has a chance to get out when a lovesick nobleman is in need of his poetic skills to impress a young woman. It doesn’t take long for Molière to fall for the nobleman’s wife, and the entanglements that follow inspire him to write Tartuffe. Laurent Tirard was present at Copenhagen International Film Festival in 2005 for the showing of his feature debut The Story of My Life. This time he has made a charming romantic comedy, which could equally be called Molière in Love - and that is meant as a compliment.
