This year’s competition films
When Copenhagen International Film Festival fades up for this year’s film event on 20 September, the audience can experience 147 fantastic films. 11 of them will get special attention, namely the films in competition, which compete for the six categories of the festival’s Golden Swan award.

Film history is full of stars, but only few of them have revolutionised their profession. Marlon Brando’s performances were milestones within the acting profession, and this is what he deserves to be remembered for - not the gossip that surrounded his incredible career. This outstanding documentary had its world premiere in Cannes this year, and it digs deeper into Brando’s personality than any previous document. It uncovers new material, which throws a different light on him. The film gives us an idea as to why the film (and theatre) world’s greatest actor behaved the way he did - why, at first, he shone on the silver screen and then never wanted to return to it. Interviews with friends as well as with colleagues such as Al Pacino, Robert Duvall and Jane Fonda, who all worked closely together with him, reveal Brando’s method. But, to a large degree, they also show a tormented man who was hiding behind the mask of the world’s greatest actor. Pacino talks about Brando’s improvisations during the shooting of The Godfather, which brought the character of Don Corleone even closer to his own personality. The film contains a number of extracts from private footage of Brando, going all the way back to his childhood. Here, for the first time, one sees a different, happier side of him.
