This year’s competition films
When Copenhagen International Film Festival fades up for this year’s film event on 20 September, the audience can experience 147 fantastic films. 11 of them will get special attention, namely the films in competition, which compete for the six categories of the festival’s Golden Swan award.

Anja Salomonowitz’s debut is an exciting experiment with traditional narrative forms, with an original approach to making a film that criticises the different ways in which human beings are exploited. The dialogue is based on interview statements made by women who have been victims of trafficking. A border guard, a woman from the neighbourhood, a brothel owner, a diplomat’s wife and a taxi driver are doing everyday things in their uneventful and lonely lives. But suddenly they stop their routine activities and turn to the camera to start speaking - in the words of the women -about what it’s like to be a completely different human being, who is nonetheless related to their world through being one of its victims. The contrast between the images and the sound, the faces and the words, gives the spectator a new way of seeing how it is possible to turn a blind eye to wrongdoings, even if one knows that they are happening within ones own surroundings.
The film is nominated for the Alice Award.
