This year’s competition films
When Copenhagen International Film Festival fades up for this year’s film event on 20 September, the audience can experience 147 fantastic films. 11 of them will get special attention, namely the films in competition, which compete for the six categories of the festival’s Golden Swan award.

A young man, Andrea, decides to leave the materialistic world and become a priest. The seminary he attends is completely isolated but set in a breathtakingly beautiful spot, on a small island in the Venetian Lagoon. But what is it he’s looking for? Storms of emtion, sexuality and frustration can be discerned under the surface among the young men, and, at nighttime, the ascetic corridors are filled with the sounds of footsteps and whispering. Andreas is fascinated by the dark, tormented Fausto, who one day suddenly disappears. The film is a rare example of a spiritual thriller, taking Andrea into a suspense-filled world of mysticism, religious questions and rituals, that are pushing him close to a break down, and he is forced to face one of the hardest choices in his life. At the same time, the film’s photography and soundtrack reflect a somewhat different and dreamlike world. Saverio Costanzo (Private) is one of Italy’s most promising young filmmakers.
