This year’s competition films
When Copenhagen International Film Festival fades up for this year’s film event on 20 September, the audience can experience 147 fantastic films. 11 of them will get special attention, namely the films in competition, which compete for the six categories of the festival’s Golden Swan award.

Three destinies are intertwined in this ambitious film. Three highly different characters are forced to show their true selves when their life is turned upside down. For Leyla, an immigrant girl, things come to a head when her older sister becomes the victim of an honour killing. Life changes dramatically for a successful journalist, when she decides to reveal in public that she is being physically abused by her husband - which she does after reporting him to the police for the attacks she has suffered over the years. For a bouncer at a Stockholm nightclub, threats become a part of the job after his colleague is shot, and he has to decide whether to come out and testify or to remain silent in return for money. A thought-provoking film which shows that there are no simple solutions when life suddenly forces one to make important moral choices with dire consequences for those one loves most dearly.
