This year’s competition films
When Copenhagen International Film Festival fades up for this year’s film event on 20 September, the audience can experience 147 fantastic films. 11 of them will get special attention, namely the films in competition, which compete for the six categories of the festival’s Golden Swan award.

Times and Winds is an intriguingly beautiful visit to the remote north-western part of Turkey. The film paints a poetic portrait of life in a country village, seen through the eyes of two boys and a girl on the verge of adolescence. Time stands still and life is tough, but Reha Erdem’s award-winning film focuses on the local inhabitants’ dreams and desires. Nature and changing seasons play a decisive role in their lives. When they are not at school or at home being told off by their parents, the three children meet in the hills, where they talk about life and observe nature. Omer fantasises about running away from his strict father, who is an Imam, while Yakup is more interested in their beautiful teacher. Yildiz is a surrogate mother for her smaller brother but is tormented by having seen her parents have sex. Erdem’s Mommy, I’m Scared was shown at Copenhagen International Film Festival in 2005.
