This year’s competition films
When Copenhagen International Film Festival fades up for this year’s film event on 20 September, the audience can experience 147 fantastic films. 11 of them will get special attention, namely the films in competition, which compete for the six categories of the festival’s Golden Swan award.

An impossible love story, sweaty jazz, skeletons in the closet and a bloody murder. These are the ingredients for the evocative Noir cocktail that is served in this stylish drama with Caroline Henderson in an important role. She plays the star in a small, smoky jazz club in Barcelona, where the film’s wrecked souls come together. A young couple, Alfredo and Lola, see a way to get out of their small-time-crook existence when Lola is offered a job by the club’s alcoholic pianist. They quickly become friends with the colourful characters, most of who are trying to forget everything about the world outside the bar. But when the local big shot Manuel Gay tempts Alfredo back into being a criminal, an ill-fated avalanche of events is set off. Always Yours is the second film of the director, but he has previously produced films for, amongst others, Julio Medem, Bigas Luna, Carlos Saura and Fernando Trueba.
